Energy . . . Does it really exist?

I'm tired but I can never figure out if it is because I am not doing the things I am supposed to consistently enough to have enough energy or if it is just going to be this way, no matter what I do, once you have children?

I read a good article in Real Simple last month and while not all of the "renewable energy" tips I remember or took to heart a few "easy" ones stuck out that I thought about trying on some sort of consistent basis once the baby arrives and we get settled into some sort of routine (let's hope that is in like 3 weeks ha ha ha)

Morning 7 - 9am
* Scent your shower - pick products with citrus, eucalyptus or mint. I totally think this works as I used to use a eucalyptus body wash and it would always make me feel refreshed and while I would not call it "energy" I did notice a lift in my general mood.  I love this one . .




* Eat your breakfast – Even if you’re not a breakfast person, try a protein shake, a banana and some raw almonds, a glass of milk and some toast.  If you do make a shake try adding flaxseed, green powder and protein powder for a boost.

* Take your vitamins – I can definitely vouch for this one . . . I feel like absolute poop if I don’t take my daily vitamin (chewable) and my supplementary iron pill (being a vegetarian I always tend to be slightly anemic) and now I have added a daily Vitamin D pill.  I am not a big horse-pill fan so I have found that chewable or sour gummy vitamins are the best way to get me to take them . . . if they taste like candy I can do it!!

Mid-morning thru Lunch 9 – 2pm
* Have coffee!!! – I was stunned and excited that this was on their list because I DO!!!  They say to have your coffee during this time and to limit it after 2pm (which may be hard for me but I will try)


* Breathe, play (walk) and eat lunch – I can do these and I do actually do most of these; I love taking a walk on my lunch break at work or at home I can take Emerson out for a short walk to the Fire Station and it always gives me a little boost!  I have also found that stretching (sometimes jumping jacks) and deep-breathing are great to give me a lift during the day also.  And I am absolutely NO GOOD to anyone if I don’t eat lunch so eat something that is ample in protein, complex carbs and fiber so that you stay fulfilled.

Afternoon Slump 2 – 5pm
* Move & turn your mojo-music on – Try a dance party with your little one (they will love to shake their tail feathers with mummy) and sing out loud.  Stretch, touch your toes, twirl and kick your legs . . . it will definitely wake you up!
* Snacks & H2O – Some of my fav’s – instant oatmeal, string cheese, cottage cheese, peanut butter and apple slices, carrots & hummus and as much water as you can take.

Night-Night 5pm sleep
* Turn off the laptop and stop texting!
* Read something calming – don’t do what I do and read Parenting magazines or Toddler books as these both just completely stress me out and end up with me having to get up and write a to-do-list of what I need to be doing with Emerson!!!
* Take a bath or warm shower (with lavender or chamomile) 

These all seem doable to me (to be able to stick with on a daily basis)) so like I said I am going to try once we are settled in with new babe . . . . hopefully these tricks and a few 100 naps will help me regain my energy! 

Eberjey

I discovered Eberjey bralettes and undies last year and was immediately smitten.  I am not a particularly large chested woman so I can't say what their bra's would be like for anyone who needs major support but I can say they are some of the most comfortable bra's and undies I have ever owned.  The material is incredibly soft and luxurious and never feels clingy or tight.

My ultimate favorite is this one, I got it in black, nude and white and until I got pregnant, and needed more support, I wore these almost every day.  They amazingly give you a great lift and shape without being an underwire! (Eberjey India Lace Bralette) 



I jumped on their website last night and was instantly obsessed again and created an "I need" list for after baby . . . see what you think!

I may have to order these to "live in" while on maternity leave!!!

ask anyone in my family; I have a thing for pairing boots, especially wellie boots, with anything!

And to add to my obsession I found out they do swim for woman AND kiddos!!!!  If these are as comfortable and made from the same types of amazingly comfortable materials as their intimates I may have found my new favorite swimsuit line!

Mummy Circle Monday

A few of my mummy fav's this week . . .

Emerson's favorite books and my new favorite gifts for new parents.  The Mr. Men series is a British favorite, I grew up reading them and now they even have cartoons in the UK.  These two sets, here and here, are perfect beginner sets and great prices.  The Mr. Men are a great way for kids to learn emotions and read about what each one means and how to handle them - they have Mr. Happy, Mr. Grumpy, Mr. Bounce, Mr. Strong, etc. and now they have the Little Misses




I am trying Evening Primrose oil caplets every night to see if it helps induce me naturally. . . it is supposed to thin your cervix.  After 37 weeks I can take 2 pills with water and 1 more "internally" --- soooo a little weird but hey if it works and this baby is born naturally WOO HOO!!!!  . . . . I will let you all know how it works



We have tried many different baby utensils for Emerson and she has not taken to any of them as she has these.  They are easy for her to grab, come in fun bright colors, inexpensive and the fork tips are protected/blunted.

summer whites and summer nights

Yesterday was my first day of maternity leave and to be honest it started off a little crazy as Emerson was completely thrown off her schedule with me being home BUT it ended up a very nice day indeed . . . . it was filled with me getting to cross a bunch of things off my to-do-list, playing with new bubbles, finding "otter pops" at the store (LOVE) and getting some great orange sherbert canvas shoes and some rad silver sandals for Emerson . . . .

Bring on the summer nights! . . . we spent the afternoon making a beet & avocado salad for daddy's dinner and taking a cool bubble bath in the kitchen sink (we are having a little bit of a heat wave here in CA)!!!

Emerson also took a nap in her big girl bed! woo-hoo . . . . she did not take to it for sleeping in right away - more of a place to put all her books and toys but recently she has been asking to take a nap in it and today she actually did!!! (this is officially the 2nd time) . . . .

And I spent her naptime checking out new fans!  We live less than a mile from the beach so there is no AC and normally that would be OK but the past few years have been pretty blazin hot here in the summer so we always use fans . . . last summer I think all 3 of our fans died slow deaths so this year I am looking at some cool fun ones . . . . has anyone tried any of these?

And with summer nights comes summer whites . . . For as long as I can remember every summer I search for those perfect white linen slouchy pants to lounge in all summer long . . . . some summers I find them other summers pass with no such luck (the last two have been this way humph!!!!)  But I came across this pic of Katie Holmes yesterday and I am loving her comfortable flowy look and those pants!!!!

fathers day goodies

I couldn't reveal any of the gift choices before fathers day as my dad, my husband and my step-dad all read my blog (which I LOVE!!!) . . . . but here is what was on the line-up for fathers day gifts this year

Mr. Hotpants

1. I got a 16 x 20 canvas of this Emerson pic done for his office - he LOVED!!!!



2. Emerson painted Daddy her own creative design on a 10 x 10 canvas.  I got a box of these  for her birthday and they are great for her little masterpieces - I even have her sign her work!

3. Kiehl's  Shave Cream - he is always on the hunt for a good shave cream! 

4. Louis Vuitton bill clip - it is awesome; the magnet is super strong! (only for cash/bills) . . . he uses a small holder for his credit cards but always has his cash all crumpled up in his pocket!  And I am getting it hot stamped with his initials in "orange" this week . . . 



And Emerson and I made breakfast in bed for daddy - egg whites, basil, tomatoe & goat cheese scramble served with chai tea and toasted pita bread!!!


For our dad and step-dad we, my sister, brother and I, all realized that they both needed a new BBQ.  So we got this little beauty for both of them and it is awesome!!!  Perfect for small patio's and cooks great!
