a glimmer into the life of a mum who loves fashion, decor and prosecco

Hope you all have a spooky, safe and yummy Halloween . . . . this is our first year trick-or-treating with the girls!!!

We have the cutest Kermit the Frog and the most gorgeous T-Rex you've ever seen . . . I will be sure to post pic's

I just LOVE this lobster and chef costume . . .

I just had to

Take a minute and watch these adorable videos of a little girl and her daddy singing. . . they have a whole set of videos on YouTube. It warms my heart and is simply sweet.  I love the first one where she is in her pj's and seems sleepy and she is leaning on her daddy the whole time . . . I love girls with their daddies.

just a quickie . . .

okay okay get your mind out of the gutter . . . .I meant a quick post! ha ha ha

Its proving hard to find the time to blog now that I am back at work.  The hours before I leave for work and the hours when I get home are "jam-packed" with two non-stop, energetic girls who are not into napping at the same time!  So I just wanted to do a short and sweet post on a few things that caught my eye . . .

I am loving these little neckies by Oeuf . . . have to get my hands on one! Or find a pattern so my mum can knit them for the girls!!

I came across this photo today of Jessica Alba's nursery for her new baby girl, Haven, and I fell in love with it.  It seems like such a happy, bright and calm place; I LOVE the pink french doors and the beautiful flower boxes on the balcony.  I like how it is girlie but not fancy or lacy or sickly-sweet.  It has a great mix of neutrals with blues, pink, orange and yellow.  And that blue Moroccan pouf . . . le sigh!  And I have to say I am really crushing on Honor's knitted headband too!

I just bought this fun lip balm from EOS.  I saw them everywhere but never really knew that they were lip balm and I didn't think they would be good BUT they are great! The bright colors and shape make it so easy to find in your purse!  It is super smooth and keeps you lips moisturized for hours.  I got the "lemon drop" with SPF 15.

No judgement

As I mentioned before, I am seeing a postpartum therapist to help me with my PPD (postpartum depression) and I just wanted to talk about this for a moment.

I love therapy, I am a strong believer in it and I have found myself craving it at certain stages of my life.  The first time I went I was nervous because of the stigma society has regarding "therapy." Most people think you must be really crazy or losing your marbles if you need therapy when in actuality it is the opposite!  You have to be pretty sane and in tune with yourself to know that you need some help in dealing with something.  If your heart was failing you would see a cardiologist, if you had a problem with your skin you would run to the nearest dermatologist, when your roots need done you pick up the phone and make an appointment with your stylist, and if you are feeling tense and tight you head to the nearest spa for that massage . . . so why do people judge when others seek out the mental help they need when they are not functioning at their best?  It is no different than getting help for any other issue/problem you may have.  People should not be ashamed or embarrassed for needing help; they should be loved and nutured.

I wanted to share a tool that my therapist gave me that I am really trying to make a daily practice.  It's called the "Loving Kindness Meditation."  I am trying to do this for a few minutes after the girlies have gone to bed and before I drift off to sleep; if nothing else it is really helping me relax right before bedtime and gets my mind to slow down so that I can fall asleep a little easier.  And I have to admit I am too hard on myself and totally "judge" how I am doing . . . I get mad at myself for not doing it right and being "perfect" at it BUT that is exactly why this practice is important and crucial for me!

Step One - Practicing Mindfulness
It is important to start a daily practice.  Do what you can with a minimum of 5 minutes a day and work your way up to 20 minutes a day.  Sit in a chair with your feet firmly planted on the ground or sit on a pillow with your legs crossed.  Be sure to sit with your back straight.  You can practice with your eyes open or closed.  Place your hands on your thighs or with your fingers gently touching.

Step Two - Basic Breath Meditation
Begin by focusing on your breath and notice your breath as you breath in and as you breath out.  As your mind wanders (and it will) gently bring your awareness back to your breath. Do your best to remain curious, open and accepting of whatever happens during your mediation.  There is no need to judge your practice.  You may feel like you aren’t doing it right and get frustrated.  Notice your judgment and then bring yourself back to focusing on your breath. This is the foundation of mindfulness practice.

Step Three - "Loving Kindness" meditation.
While sitting, say this mantra during the meditation.
May I be healthy.
May I be safe.
May I be happy.
Notice what comes up for you without judging.  Always bring your attention back to these three sentences.

Show & Tell

Hello my lovelies!  I am "hopefully" back on more of a consistent basis again!  Today is my first day back at work as my maternity leave has sadly come to an end.  I will admit I am pretty sure this is going to be a hard, weepy week but I will get through it with the help of Mr. Hotpants, my family and our wonderful nanny . . . oh and of course Starbucks!!!

This beautiful, crisp, Fall Monday I wanted to share a few things I am loving and one of my "quirky" tips!

LOVING . . . .

Kate Somerville ExfoliKate . . . . I am addicted to how amazingly soft this makes your skin.  After all the hormone up and downs my skin has been through with this pregnancy it was SCREAMING for attention and this came to the rescue! It's a little pricey but it is SOOO worth it and you only use it 1-2 times a week so it will last a while.

It is no surprise that I am a huge fan of California Baby products (we use their lotion, shampoo, bodywash and conditioner for the girls) but now I am slightly obsessed with their bubble bath selections . . . they have the most amazing names for all sorts of "kid moods" and each one is infused with aromatherapy oils that are known to calm or help with that particular mood/ailment.  I bought the "Colds & Flu" seen as we are heading into flu season (it is a yummy eucalyptus blend) and the "Overtired & Cranky" with chamomile for those "oh-so-toddler-diva-afternoons."  Added bonus? - They all come with a bubble wand, fun!!!  Some of the other choices - Party, Super Sensitive, Chamomile & Herbs, Calming, and Light & Happy.

The SNUZA (thanks to the recommendation by an old friend of mine, Matt. B!) . . . this is the best "tiny" secret!  It clips onto your babies diaper and monitors their breathing!!! Great for helping ease your mind about SIDS . . . and it is so awesome because you can use it on them anywhere, anytime - in the car seat, nap time in their swing, and bedtime in their crib.  In short, if it does not detect any movement from your baby for 10 seconds it gently vibrates in an attempt to rouse your baby (as they may just be in a deep sleep) and if that does nothing, after 5 sec, a beeping alarm goes off to alert you!  I love it and cant stop telling other mum's about it!  I bought it on Amazon.

I love these little boots from Target - they come in pink and purple and brown and tan; so I think they would work for a toddler boy or girl.  I just can't decide which ones to get sweetpea?  Maybe I'll get 2 pairs since they are only $20!!!

So do you want to know my quirky tip?  I have made it a rule that every time I use the restroom, at work and home, I do a set of 20 push-ups.  I put my hands on the sink countertop and step my feet back till I am in a plank position, then do 20-30 push-ups.  If you do this each time you go to the bathroom, do you know how many pushups you do in a day?? It definately adds up!  I have also decided to add in 20 squats ---- this only takes a minute or so. . . . give it a try (you can also use the wall instead of the countertop!)
